Strawberries

Time is flying by!

I am sitting with my feet up, it is 6:19 p.m. I am looking out of the window at the darkening grey sky, listening to the wind roar. I feel pretty good!

We have already been out for a walk, and it was glorious. Although very windy, the temperature is summery.

Spied on our walk are new surveillance cameras around town, one of them is installed along our walking route. A neighbour told us they are installed at all entrances and exits in and out of town. I found an article about them, that stated they were a municipal installation, partially funded by the Ontario government, and in collaboration with our police force. I wave at the camera, and say good morning or good evening to whoever has to review the footage, it has got to be boring almost all of the time, maybe good wishes from a daffy old woman will be amusing.

Here are a few photos from the last few days.

On the left are the beets, picked today, that we had for supper, along with Salmon Burgers. I enjoyed my beets with home canned Pepper Relish, so good!

In the middle is a zucchini from the garden, harvested yesterday. It was immediately used to bake Chocolate Zucchini Muffins. There are two more very small zucchini growing on the plant that Attila covers with a plastic sheet every night, to prevent frost from damaging the plant. It may however, be too cold during the day for those little guys to mature for eating. We shall see.

On the right is part of my breakfast this morning. The peppers were picked just before the first frost. The carrot was picked fresh from the garden today, as were the strawberries. The carrot is wonderfully crisp and sweet. The strawberries, despite not looking all that ripe, are sweet and delicious. I am very impressed to be eating freshly picked strawberries on the 19th of October. I sure hope these plants survive the winter!

Quote

“Eccentricity is not, as dull people would have us believe, a form of madness. It is often a kind of innocent pride, and the man of genius and the aristocrat are frequently regarded as eccentrics because genius and aristocrat are entirely unafraid of and uninfluenced by the opinions and vagaries of the crowd.”
