Vaccinations

Today Attila and I received our senior’s vaccinations for the flu, and for Covid. My Mom did the same. Attila and I expect to feel a little under the weather for a few days, that is what usually happens. The process is well worth any discomfort.

The grocery store was the next port of call.

It has been a funny few days. At the grocery store, we kept getting stuck behind people who felt their carts needed to be in the middle of the aisle, blocking everyone esle from proceeding around them. Then there was a driver on the road, who was enjoying experimental driving; “lets see if anyone hits me if I pull out suddenly in front of moving vehicles”. Many brakes were engaged by the moving traffic. No one did hit joyful driver, I suppose this will merely reinforce their feeling of invincibility. Also encountered were several ATVs roaring down the highway, no license plates.

This seems to be a current theme. On our journey home from the Camp, after dark, we followed a vehicle with no lights down the highway for about 14 kilometers, it wove left to right but kept in the correct lane, and drove right into town, zipping around corners. Since we don’t do cell phones, this could not be recorded or reported by us, but perhaps one of the many other vehicles witnessing this spectacle called the authorities.

Back to today. Hours after our shots we enjoyed our daily glass of Kombucha. I was surprised to experience a few heart flutters, which has not happened since I restricted the tea brewing time to fifteen minutes, to reduce the caffeine content. I wonder if this brew is somehow different, or if this sensitivity is a side effect of the double vaccination I received today. The flutters disappeared almost immediately, and I feel fine now.

We are still having fresh vegetables from our garden with our meals. Tonight we enjoyed roasted root parsley, carrots, and leeks.

The weather has been wet and cold. The overwintering plants and the water table need the rain.

Julia and I got our flu shots last month, with no difficulty. But we had some hassle getting the covid shots due to the new changes in the CDC rules. Were we gonna need a doctor’s prescription or not? We dutifully asked our respective PCPs…. and then the CDC decided we wouldn’t need the prescription. What a bother! Always before 2025, we’d just go into the nearby grocery store’s pharmacy, tell them what shot we needed, do our shopping, return to the pharmacy and get the vaccine. I gather it is more difficult for those under age 65 now. (It’s good to be ‘auld’?) Caffeine, that’s a powerful thing, I don’t know if the little bit in green tea bothers my ulcer or not. (I know the licorice and chamomile teas are consistently soothing, though.) I hope your side effects settle down soon.

I’m glad you were able to get your vaccinations. Once again, it’s difficult to get the COVID vaccine around here. DH wrote to our MP and MPP. More than a week later the MPP finally answered. She just repeated all the info available just about everywhere. When DH pointed that out and said we needed a better supply, she stated that the pharmacies are the ones controlling what they bring in. If so, that means the pharmacies around here are bringing in small amounts, thereby making it hard for people to get their vaccinations.
