Mom is having a bit of a rough go at the moment. Her knee has been giving her trouble, she needs a knee replacement. In the meantime her knee is infected. She is sleeping peacefully after coming out of the surgery to address that.
My sister, the middle girl, who lives just minutes from Mom’s new apartment, drove Mom to the hospital where her daughter is a doctor. It is a bit of a drive, a few hours from their home, but it is the best place for Mom, and the upside is that she gets to visit with her grandchild more often while she is in the hospital. So the pain is now under control, the infection is being addressed, and Mom is comfortable and resting.
One of my sisters, who both live minutes from Mom’s new apartment, will be at the hospital every day, as it is only a few hours away. It is too far for us to make a day trip, about five hours one way, which is sad. I am comforted though, that Mom is surrounded by people who love her, it doesn’t get any better than that.
Another busy day here at Mist Cottage. I started milling flour last night, as the jar was empty, and I wanted to bake muffins today. I did bake muffins this morning, after milling a second gallon jar of whole wheat flour.
As I busied myself with milling flour and baking, Attila prepared the green tomatoes and onions for the Chow Chow we will can today, and got that simmering on the burner. It will be ready to can after lunch, that will be my job.
Attila is also out in the garden harvesting bits of this and that, keeping an eye on the ripening tomatoes, bringing in those that are ripe, and storing them until there are enough to process into tomato sauce. Best of all are the fresh tomatoes we enjoy every day in our green salad, and the occasional toasted tomato sandwich.
The weather is cooler at night now. This means that it is lovely early in the morning when we want to go out walking. It is still getting hot by mid afternoon, the garden loves that.

We’ve cooled off a bit, today. It’s 10PM and the temp is 16/61F with a low supposedly going down to 12/54F. In a couple of days we’re supposed to have a warmer day or two 22/72F) and then it’s supposed to cool off again.
Sorry to hear about your mom. I have no idea whether she’s anywhere near this, but I’ve had folks tell me that there’s a good knee clinic in Owens Sound and they have a shorter than normal list for surgery.
Teri, it seems autumn is arriving. 12C is not warm at all, it is a bit warmer here, but not a lot.
