The weather is prefect today, sunny, not too hot, not too cool, and a lovely breeze is blowing. The windows are all open. There are fresh flowers in a jar on the table.
Well it has been quite a busy time for us, over the last month or so.
Last week and weekend we attended the beautiful and meticulously orchestrated wedding of the beautiful daughter of my beautiful sister. It was a great opportunity to connect and chat with family members again, some we hadn’t seen in many years.
We were lucky to be welcomed for a wonderful visit with a dear friend and her partner, while in town for the wedding. The time got away from us, as we chatted. We instantly picked up where we left off, it had been ten years since we last spoke face to face.
We booked a room for two nights, as we travelled quite a way to attend the wedding. The Guest House on the Mount was reviewed as bare bones, however, we found it fitted us perfectly, we loved it. Our room offered a private bathroom (not all do), a private kitchen (not all do), very comfortable beds, ample parking, 24 hour staff, and was quiet and peaceful. A kitchen is vital for us, as I need to prepare my own food. The place where we stayed had a beautiful setting, lots of places to go for a walk, and was easy to access.
Ginger seems to have forgiven us for being absent for three days and two nights, leaving him alone at home. When we first arrived home, late at night, the first thing Attila did was to sit and pet Ginger. When Attila got up and went out to unload car, Ginger caterwauled very loudly, until I came to his side, and sweet talked him for a quarter of an hour. Although he was much calmer, he was not appeased.
I had set my backpack down in the hall when I had entered the house. Ginger settled himself on the backpack, taking a few swats at my legs as I passed by. He chewed on straps for a little while, before settling down for a sleep, resting after insuring that I could not leave again without him. By the next day he had pretty much forgiven us our sins; life got back to its normal rhythm.
Unlike Ginger, the garden seemed to thrive being left alone for three days. The spinach was ready to bolt, so all of it was harvested. The yield was enough to make three batches of cream of spinach soup base, which went into the freezer for winter lunches. Other starts were planted in the space left empty in the raised bed, ground cherries and pepper plants. The first of the lettuce was picked fresh for the evening green salad, it seems the lettuce likes the compost we bought this spring. Flowers are blooming in the garden, chrysanthemums and irises, and the blossoms on the high bush cranberry are profuse and resplendent. The peonies will bloom soon!
