First Strawberries

On Monday Attila and I got our Covid vaccinations at the grocery store pharmacy. Initially I talked with the pharmacist, a young woman, to ask if they had the Covid vaccinations for seniors. She replied in the affirmative.
Then she looked me in the eye and said, “Are you over 65?”
I don’t get asked that kind of question much anymore. I flashed her a big smile and said, “Yes. Thanks for asking!”

Yesterday, Tuesday, Attila and I were feeling tired due to the vaccinations the previous day. We went to bed early and feel much better today. My arm, where I received the shot, is still quite swollen, hot, and sore, but improving.

Today the temperature out of doors is very warm and humid, the skies are grey, rain dapples the pavement from time to time, but does not persist long enough to connect the dots. Heavy rain is expected, so say the weather people. We will see about that.

The garden is thriving. Today two strawberries were red and ripe, we each had one for breakfast. They are not sweet, but the strawberry flavour is excellent. Rhubarb and lettuce are being harvested daily, and the entire spinach crop was harvested, cooked, and frozen.

Attila is out in the garden doing garden things, I am in the house where it is relatively cool and mosquito free, cooking and doing paperwork. Early this morning I made Tuna Noodle Casserole in the Instant Pot, which was cooled and refrigerated so that the starch in the pasta can slowly transform into a resistant starch. I prefer cooking in the morning, as I am a morning person. Sometimes, when I cook in the afternoon or evening, I have to drag myself along the process, as that is my downtime.

Every time I look out the kitchen window at the garden, I feel delighted!

Maggie, the whole idea of resistant starch is new to me, so I just googled it. This is great to know! Thank you.

Shots make my arm sore, too. I can only do one at a time. Julia, in contrast, has had two shots on the same day with not much after effects. Not me! Enjoy your harvest!
