Spinach

Attila just brought in a little bowl of spinach from the garden. Not from full grown plants, but the results of thinning the rows. So there is fresh spinach for our green salad for dinner tonight.

Earlier in the week Attila harvested rhubarb from the garden, some to take to my sister, and some to stew here at Mist Cottage. After it was stewed I used some of it to make rhubarb squares for Attila, he likes squares. Currently the baked squares are made with very chewy large flake organic oats. That was the last bulk purchase of oats, a few years ago. They are almost gone now. More were purchased on the last visit to the wholesaler, this time quick oats, smaller flakes.

The hole in the concrete basement wall is very slowly being made. It is a huge job with a little drill, which overheats. There were other options to get the task done, but they all required dollars spent, so Attila chose to do the job with what was on hand. It is going very very slowly. The hole is where the ERV will be installed, someday.

At the moment it is 19C outside, and the windows are wide open. The radon level in the house is 0. It was over 300 this morning when I got out of bed, definitely a problem when the heat or air conditioning is turned on, with the house closed up.

I have decided to postpone my next physiotherapy session, to give myself a chance to incorporate all of the exercises into my daily routine, so that there will be a discernible effect at my next session. It is going to take time, as I am also incorporating three new medications into my daily routines. It is a slow process, adding one exercise, then allowing myself time to learn it, and figure out the best way to work it into the daily schedule. The more I add, the more complex it becomes.

I’ve had my intake appointment for cataract surgery. I am presently doing the preparations the surgeon asked me to do prior to the next appointment, where my eyes will be measured, and I will choose my lenses. I assume that the following step is an appointment for the surgery itself, hopefully this summer or autumn. Although it is a very safe surgery, it does cross my mind that I could be blind afterwards… it does happen on rare occasions, the surgeon warned me, and I hope I am not one of those rare occasions. I have not prepared my world for loss of sight, and hope never to face that challenge.

Fortunately, they do one eye at a time, so that no doubt very rare case will insure you at least have the other eye. (Believe me, I thought of this when Julia had her eyes done.) She’s very happy now, and can see much better. I accidently bought a box of ‘power greens’ instead of plain spinach, it also has chard and kale in it. Tastes okay.

Good quote! Maybe truer now than ever.
