Today the weather is grand!
All the windows are open, in the basement, and on the main floor of the house.
Attila has been planting plugs for his little greenhouses. He has also been assisting with some of my kitchen projects, particularly the batch of Chili I am making, one of his favourites. I’ve also baked bread, and cooked a small bit of broccoli that was on sale for an outrageous price, imported from the USA. I would prefer Ontario greenhouse broccoli, but there was none. The price was low enough for an indulgence. I am using the 1/4 head of broccoli, plus stem, to make a Cream of Broccoli Soup Base. Another experiment. The Cream of Mushroom Soup Base was very good. My favourite is still the Cream of Tomato Soup Base. I’ve been adding a teaspoon of Miso to every bowl of soup I make for myself, and a teaspoon of flax seed as well. I use 1% milk for my cream-of soups, hardly gourmet but healthier for me. The flax seed adds a bit of body to the soup, and nutrients.
It smells wonderful in the house.
Ginger is looking very mellow over there on the couch, I think he likes the windows open. He shows no interest in the outdoors, except occasionally he watches a bird fly by.
Today and tomorrow are to be warm and sunny, above seasonal temperatures. Then we plummet to below freezing on Sunday night, for a few nights, and then back up again. Quite the yo-yo weather.
Our morning walk, which is now our only daily walk, of two miles, was very pleasant in this great weather. This was the fourth day we have walked two miles before breakfast, and the fourth route we have explored. I think today’s route is the one we will follow. It is good underfoot, and there are trees visible throughout. One route we tried was unpleasant, heavy traffic roaring by a few feet away from us… nope. Another route was better, but depressing, as it wound through a subdivision under construction, no trees, big machines, the earth ripped up and piled up… nope. Yesterday the route was pleasant, but too short… we had to do better. We will adopt today’s route for our daily walks. My body is slowly adapting to the increase in distance.

I think Mother Earth requires flexibility of all species. She is not asking, it is not optional.
You’re right about Mother Earth. I’m glad you’ve got tasty foods to eat.
Thank you Joan! It is lovely to have such good food to eat! Lots of work, but being retired we are perfectly placed to indulge our interest in food.
