I have just had a great experience. With health care! This is related to my cardiovascular health, an aneurysm and an aortic dilation. I will be having an echo cardiogram to establish the stability of the dilation.
I called the cardiologist’s clinic and spoke briefly with a lovely woman. I explained my allergy, and that I would like to review the medication for my allergen. I sent her an email with the list of chemical names for the allergen. She said she would consult the cardiologist. That was late yesterday afternoon.
Early this morning I have received a response, she sent me images of both the medication box and the manufacturer’s insert, with all the non-medicinal ingredients listed. My allergen is not listed, the medication is safe for me. As a result the medication can be used and I will get the full benefit of the tests.
This interaction took less than 24 hours, and was pleasantly managed. With caring people this allergy is easily managed.
It made me cry.
And more good news! Mom is feeling better day by day, although knee replacement surgery is needed, so the knee remains an issue. When we were visiting with her we talked about the farm, and how hard she worked while raising five children that were born about a year apart, and our baby sister born a little while later. I don’t know how she did it! Mom is a power house, a force of nature, and I am so glad she is my Mom!
It is raining this morning, a gentle persistent rain. The garden will appreciate it. As the first frost approaches our efforts to preserve garden produce intensify. Yesterday we canned Salsa Verde. Today we are canning garden tomatoes. Tomorrow we will can Salsa Verde again.
Attila has taken on garden produce freezing and dehydrating. He is dehydrating lots of basil, and freezing lots of celery. Celery is a great addition to winter casseroles and soups, so we are glad to have lots of our own organic celery in the freezer.

I found this to be true.
It is challenging though, when mouth watering presentations are everywhere you look!
Thank goodness for my healthy low everything but nutrition Chocolate Zucchini Muffins! I start my eating window with one, and end my eating window with a second… and this has come to feel so very decadent!
I lose about 1.3 ounces a month… and all the while I have been perfectly happy with what I am eating for the last two years. Slow and steady wins the day, I say.
NOTE: Other people that eat most of the food sold in grocery stores won’t care for my muffins,
I don’t blame them, to the unadapted palate they might seem more like chewy chocolate cardboard. It took my palate over a year to adapt to low sodium and low sugar… I won’t say it was easy.
It’s wonderful to hear that you finally had folks that took your allergy seriously and you were able to search the paperwork for your allergen.
I was just looking to see if MSDSs list all ingredients. Turns out they may not. But Google suggests that the package insert would list all ingredients. So, maybe all, you need to do is ask for the package insert of each medication they are considering for you.
DH’s dad’s ashes were interred, today. Kids, grandkids, and even the great-grandkids were there. He didn’t want a funeral so 2 grandkids just mentioned their memories of him, and then DH and his brother laid Dad’s urn in his wife’s grave. It was very short, with no drama. It was nice.
Teri, asking about the package can work in some situations, but a lot of medical people won’t let you see what they are using. I am not really sure what that is all about, but it happens frequently.
I’ve learned that most can’t really can’t understand how to compare the list of allergens to a label on a box, or or the list of ingredients on an insert. It is pretty scary to run into this with great frequency. I don’t really mind that they can’t manage to get it right, but when they won’t let me see the information I know I might run into serious trouble… human error in this instance is normal, not an exception.
In the interaction today they misunderstood the allergen, but provided images of the box and the insert, so I could figure it out for myself. I am confident in this case that I will come to no harm.
Condolences to you, DH, and family. Now lovely that so many generations of loved ones were there to say farewell.
My experience with health care was super; everyone was kind and caring, and to my knowledge all was done well and with gentleness and competence.
I’m with you on making changes to our bodies when we want the changes to last. Short-term dietary changes mean short-term changes. For me, making changes gradually without denying myself anything (just scheduling when I would consume certain things rather than cutting them out immediately) eventually led to hardly eating or drinking them at all. Worked for me with ease.

Kate, I am so very glad your health care has been so wonderful! I know it happens, and it is nice to hear about it. It gives me hope it will happen for me with the cataract surgery, someday.
I agree about denying ourselves tings we desire that aren’t the best idea for us, and that the gradual approach is effective!
