Settling in for the Winter

Saturday already! And we are soon to head into the last week of November. The landscape of time has changed with age, largely for the better in my opinion.

We are having a quiet, relaxed day today. The past week has been very busy, Attila painting walls in the basement and tucking the garden in for the winter. Me sorting through all the administrative stuff involved with the infrastructures of life beyond these walls, and the domestic necessities within these walls.

Last week we sold Tank, the new owner is quite pleased with it, despite its many issues. It feels very good to pass it along to someone who will make good use of it. One vehicle is enough to carry financially, and care for. It will be a relief not pay insurance on Tank, and the sale will help us get through the tricky financial transition that we are almost through. We have had enough money to survive without issue, the challenge was that everything changed and the approach to finances needed to be completely altered, and that has been work. Transitions are always a bit stressful, for me at least.

This past week saw the last of the freshly harvested garden produce made into meals. The cabbage came in, it was second growth. There was enough to make a big batch of Cabbage Roll Casserole, a favourite here. The last of the beets were harvested and cooked in the Instant Pot, then enjoyed as a side with salmon burgers. I like to put our Pepper Relish on my cooked beets, it is so delicious.

I have come to the conclusion that I need a little bit more sodium in my diet. I’ve cut sodium out of cooking and baking as much as is possible. My efforts have paid off, but now I need to eat a few pickles some days, to top myself up. Balance is the goal.

We continue to have health care appointments right through until Christmas, all relatively benign, such as an eye exam. It is quite wonderful that we have access to these appointments, many of them would not have been possible before we were under the care of a GP (General Practitioner or Family Doctor).

Jigsaw puzzles continue to provide relaxing entertainment. We are buying them at a thrift store, where they are affordable. This year it was decided that we would each choose a puzzle to purchase new. Both of us would choose a puzzle that we like. I will wrap mine and put it under the tree for Attila to open, it will be a surprise; he will wrap his and put it under the tree for me to open. This way we both get exactly what we like, and we both get a surprise present to open on Christmas morning.

I have sent off the little gifts for the Grandbabies. My oldest grandson’s birthday gift was lost in the mail, while his sisters received theirs. I will give Canada Post one more chance to deliver the gifts for Christmas, and if problems arise I will abandon sending gifts via Canada Post and look for other options.

My Mom has been feeling under the weather for the last week or so, apparently she has pneumonia. She has it under control, and is mending quite quickly, feeling better every day. My sisters live close by, so she has wonderful support. Mom is a treasure!

Well, I think I will close the entry here. The pizza is coming out of the oven in the next few minutes, time to enjoy a slice and watch an episode of The Duchess of Duke Street.

Take care all!

There are still times when I miss my old car. I liked it better than the one we have now, though this newer one has bells and whistles that were only dreams when I bought my car in 2010. We should have gotten a car with more cargo space. My mistake for letting DH talk me into it. With 2 dogs, sometimes there’s a reason or two to have more cargo space.

This car is the first time we’ve had heated seats. I LOVE them! Last winter, I was using them from fall through early summer, due to some back issues. But I honestly hadn’t thought about the heated seats yet this year. Thanks for the reminder!
