I wonder.
When I pass, if I am still a cohesive entity with perception and cognition, will I care what humans are doing on planet earth, or anywhere else in the universe? Will I have agency? Will I be able to watch over those still living, for whom I held affection, connection, or even just concern, during my life span?
I am not anxious to discover the answers to these questions of mine, as all will reveal itself in the course of time. It can wait for a very long time to reveal itself.
Today Attila is putting together the fourth raised bed. This is quite a feat in my view. The four panels that go together to form one raised bed weigh about 40 pounds each, and the beds are quite tall. Once they are constructed, the process of filling them is long and back breaking. Attila has managed to fill three raised beds using only yard waste from our property. Logs from the dead ash trees, brush from our trees, soil from our Hügelkulturs, the old and dismantled raised beds, and soil from our compost bins. A lot of dirt has dug up and moved.
Right now Attila is using his chain saw to prune the Crab Apple tree in the front yard. I can hear the drone of the saw as I write. This is an enjoyable activity for him, as he has decades of professional experience pruning fruit tress, when he was a working manager of an apple farm. The branches he removes will help to fill the raised bed, the timing of the pruning was carefully chosen.
I’ve been very lucky lately, to have been gifted a Kobo Clara BW, an e-book reading device. I am in love with this little device, I carry it around with me all day. The screen (e-ink) is so much easier on my eyes than the computer/tablet/phone screens. Best of all though is that I can access books from Kobo company, from the local library, or from collected books from other sources. Right now I am reading Shogun for the first time, and enjoying it very much. This is a gift that keeps on giving, and is appreciated so very much.
Years and years and years ago my daughters gave me a Kobo reading device for my birthday. It was a lovely gift. Those were the early days of reading devices, the screens were back lit, the software was buggy to say the least. I enjoyed that Kobo very much, but the hardware and software on it became outdated, the device was no longer supported, and I haven’t used it for a few years now. So I was nervous about Kobo this time around. I chose it because the company began as a Canadian company, still has a Canadian office, and is now a Japanese company, Rakuten Kobo. I have to say, everything about the experience with this Kobo is wonderful, the customer support, the easy setup, the incredibly legible print, the features. Any misgivings I may have had have melted away.
It is the first day of May. It is still quite cool here, it was 10C mid-morning. But now the temperature has risen to 17C, which is pleasant enough to sit on the back porch. I think I will take myself out, and sit myself down out there, and watch Attila work (play!).

I hope you find many enjoyable books. We especially enjoyed the ‘read and listen’ of Pachinko, a saga about a Korean family living in Japan. You might like that one?
Thank you Joan! Pachinko sounds wonderful, I will look for it. I am sure I will enjoy it!
