Fresh Fruit Cake Pudding

3 cups fresh fruit
1/3 cup sugar [original amount 1/2 to 1 cup]

2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening
2/3 cup sugar [original amount: 1 1/4 cups]
2 whole eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup milk

Combine fruit and sugar, place in the bottom of a greased 9×12 pan. In a small bowl, stir flour, baking powder and salt together. In a large bowl cream shortening and sugar; dd eggs one a time. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk to the shortening and sugar mixture. Pour over fruit. Bake at 350 F for 40 to 60 minutes.
