The Trip

My little treat to myself, and experiment, is a lone trip to the little house in the city. Attila cannot get away, except overnight on a Saturday night, so most of his time is taken up with yard maintenance and a little bit of project work, when we visit the little house. I am hoping to get a few small projects under way, but we will see how it goes.

I am writing this entry from the little house in the city. I drove down this morning, by myself, an uneventful trip, but a longer drive than usual due to several areas where the roads were under construction.

I was feeling fine about being here alone until I looked down at the kitchen table, and there were Attila’s glasses, pang! I put them up with his hats, above the coat rack, so that won’t happen again.

Since arriving, I have made several phone calls via Skype from a McDonald’s parking lot. It worked this morning, but on my visit to McDonald’s this afternoon the connection did not work from the car, and I eventually got it working inside the building. Weird, and not reliable. I certainly won’t be using Skype while sitting inside a McDonald’s restaurant! So I’ve sent all my missives for today by email.

I have purchased my food and am busy making salads, macaroni and cabbage/carrot, which I will eat the whole time I am here. I have also picked up the new tub fixtures for the bathtub, so we are good to go with that project as soon as Attila has some time. He has another weekend off in July, so it will have to wait until then. Even so, we might decide to prioritize building a new front porch so that we have easier access to the building.

I want to cut the grass, but have to wait till I can talk Terra or Lares into coming over, to get the darn thing started for me. If I pull my back while here alone, then I’ll have a big problem, so no use taking chances.

I am tired of sitting in McDonald’s, so I will sign off and head home to the little house!

With a little luck our new internet connection will be installed tomorrow, at the little house in the city.

I remain hopeful. I may be back at McDonald’s though, to keep in touch with Attila and everyone else. It is surprisingly quiet in a house with no communication or entertainment connections!

Smart lady. Definitely don’t want injury when you’re alone. Are you able to be in contact there via cell phone? Somehow I always visualise Canada as being in the middle of a howling wilderness…well, maybe not howling and maybe not wilderness, but definitely not like urban Los Angeles, the second largest city in the U.S.!

Sarah makes a good point about the phone. If you have one, I encourage you to keep it on you at all times.

I carry a cell phone all the time, a $100 a year, pay-as-you-go, emergency, seven year old dinosaur of a cell phone. It works, but not for having conversations! We are careful about cell phone usage, and manage to make the $100 last for a year, sometimes with $ to transfer to the next year!
