Little Bits

Since the canning is slowing down now, there is time for the little bits.

Another batch of Vegetable Broth was made in the steam juicer this morning.

Another loaf of bread was baked this morning.

The Nasturtium Hot Sauce was strained and bottled this morning. I don’t think of it as hot sauce though, it is more like vinegar with flavour and heat.

The Apple Cider Vinegar was strained, jarred, and set in a dark cupboard for the next four weeks. It was made with the very few apples that were picked on the new apple tree in the front yard. It made about a cup and a half of vinegar-to-be.

Lots of dishes to do today. All the plastic bags, that held the vegetable scraps used for broth, needed thorough washing. They were hung on the back porch clothes line to dry. The plastic bags from yesterday’s batch of broth were dry, so they were brought in and folded, ready for more scraps. The steam canner, and the jars for vinegar making all needed cleaning. Vases as well needed a careful cleaning. Vintage mason jars are used as vases, the water in them gets a bit disgusting.

Stepping outside this morning at 6:00 a.m., to setup the hot plate and the steam juicer, I was greeted by a wall of vile aroma. Nearby farmers are spreading liquid manure again. The smell was strong enough to make my eyes water. This was not a good day for sitting out on the back porch!

It has been a day of getting the little projects moving along, or completed.

I hope you’ve had a nice day!

Stay save dear friends!

Quote

“The universe is not hostile, nor yet is it friendly. It is simply indifferent.”
J. H. Holmes

Since hostile and friendly are human conceptions, this statement is a roundabout way of telling us that humans are not the centre of the universe.
