Full of Gas

We just had our first visitors since last October! Two pleasant women came to the door to invite me to a Jehovah Witness event at their Kingdom Hall. I took the little flyer to be polite, but not the little books, they would only go directly into the trash, so it is better not to take them. I hope what they are doing is making them happy, because it isn’t making them any friends. I will recognize their car next time, they’ll be back, and because they were so polite and non-intrusive I’ll probably go out to greet them again the next time they come.

What is the universe thinking!!!

The day is speckled with droppings from work. In March my pay check was five and half hours short, I just wasn’t paid for those five and a half hours that I worked. I called the payroll gal as soon as I was aware of the issue. She said she would look into it and call me back, and didn’t. My next pay check came and still no payment for those five and a half hours worked. I called again today, she isn’t available, I left a message. But I am not postponing my trip again just so that I can attempt to resolve payroll errors. So I called the management at the company and requested that they look into it for me, as I’ll be away for a few days.

I will leave early tomorrow morning, to visit the little house in the city.

The packing has begun. I’ve a few things to prepare so that I have lots of work to keep me busy indoors if it rains during my lone visit to the little house in the city. The 342 files that need to be transcribed for my genealogy book must be transferred to the laptop. That will provide enough work to keep me busy full time for months.

The Kobo is loading five new titles for bedtime reading. Titles borrowed and temporarily downloaded from the Ontario Library Service. This process takes a bit of time.

The car is full of gas, the laundry already washed and dried and ready. Food has been planned and readied for the journey and visit. I’ve bills that need paying while I’m away, so I’ll be bringing them along as well. While I will have my computer with me, I will not have access to the Internet.

Ready, set, go!

Quote

“Derive happiness in oneself from a good day’s work, from illuminating the fog that surrounds us.”
Henri Matisse
1869 – 1954

Note

Henri Matisse

“Henri Emile Benoît Matisse was born in a tiny, tumbledown weaver’s cottage on the rue du Chêne Arnaud in the textile town of Le Cateau-Cambrésis at eight o’clock in the evening on the last night of the year, 31 December 1869 (Le Cateau-Cambrésis is in the extreme north of France near the Belgian border). The house had two rooms, a beaten earth floor and a leaky roof. Matisse said long afterwards that rain fell through a hole above the bed in which he was born. Matisse’s ancestors had lived in the area for centuries before the convulsive social and industrial upheavals of the nineteenth century. Matisse grew up in a world that was still detaching itself from a way of life in some ways unchanged since Roman times. The coming of the railway had put Bohain on the industrial map, but people still traveled everywhere on foot or horseback…

Matisse’s childhood memories were of a stern upbringing. “Be quick!” “Look out!” “Run along!” “Get cracking!” were the refrains that rang in his ears as a boy. In later years when survival itself depended on habits of thrift and self-denial, the artist prided himself on being a man of the North. When Matisse in turn had children of his own to bring up, he chided himself for any lapse in discipline or open display of tenderness as weakness on his part.”
