Attila’s Dad

This morning we received a telephone call from Attila’s brother Bruce, who lives in Michigan. He called with the sad news that Attila’s father, in his eightieth year, passed away peacefully in his sleep, in Florida, during the night last night. Not an unexpected event, Attila’s father was suffering from advanced idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. It is sad news, and Attila’s Dad will be missed by his five children, and many friends. We will be attending a Memorial Service in northern Ontario in the spring.

Attila is spending his day tending to necessities, shovelling the heavy snowfall we have received over the last few days, splitting and toting firewood; mostly keeping company with his own thoughts, as is his way.

My feelings are of loss, and a certain degree of thankfulness. Attila’s Dad was feeling fine yesterday, and he went to his rest peacefully, without fear or pain, with someone who cared about him nearby, as his son Adam, a young man, still lived with him.

Quote

“Full fathom five thy father lies;
Of his bones are coral made;
Those are pearls that were his eyes:
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange.”

My sympathies to you both on the passing of your Dad. That it was peaceful and not filled with pain or terror is truly a blessing. Our only surviving Dad is 93 and is not a happy old man with medical problems in the way of enjoying life. If only there were a prescribed way to pass on painlessly and peacefully for us all. Love to you both. xxx

I have been told that when we pass away peacefully in our sleep, it is because we have learned all the lessons we came to this lifetime to learn.

And don’t we all wish to pass away peacefully as we sleep? I know I do.

All tenderness and care to you and Attila, who loved him.

It’s always sad when it’s time, even when that time is necessary and right, and he had a pleasant passing. Condolences to Attila, you and all affected.

My sympathies to Attila, and everyone who knew his father. May your memories of him be a comfort to you.

My consolations. Lost my mom to the same disease. It’s hard.

I’ve been told when one loses life to IPF that it’s a gentle passing – one simple tires and slips away in sleep. I know that is a great comfort for you and Attila… and for me. My friend of 40+ years recently slipped away in sleep – a result of IPF.

Sandra

My warmest sympathies on the loss of your dear father-in-law.
